Autumn at Mitake-san again

The Rock Garden

Mitake-san is a mountain in western Tokyo Prefecture with a grand, old Shinto shrine on top.  It’s become sort of the place in the hills that I head towards when I’m not imaginative to head anywhere else.  Tried and trusted, there is a network of pathways through the forest, taking in a few mountain tops, and leading down the valley to the Tama River.  I headed up with my Swedish friends for a day of autumn in the hills.

Local festival in Nakameguro

Sunday was a sunny day in Tokyo, which was good for a lot of local festivals that were being held around my neighbourhood.  In nearby Nakameguro, I came across a small festival based around a jinja (Shinto shrine) called Kitano Jinja.

Summer excursion to Kamakura & Yokohama

My sister Cathy was visiting Japan for nearly a week, and we had a great time catching up in Tokyo while she was here.  Unfortunately, she’s already gone home to Australia, but on Sunday, we had a really fun, although rather hot, summer’s day exploring a few sites in Kamakura, followed by Yokohama for dinner.
