On the way to Tokyo

I’ve checked in, said my farewells, and am now sitting waiting for my flight.  The last week or so has been a mad rush of moving out of home, packing, and trying to catch people.

Yesterday, I managed to say goodbye to all of my old job, my house and my car.  It’s been quite surreal watching my Melbourne life flash past – having a farewell breakfast with my boss, handing the keys to my (now empty) house to the real estate agent for leasing out, and dropping off my car.  Last night was a family dinner with Cathy, Chris, mum, dad and Audrey.  Mum put on a fantastic lamb roast, and there was a good quality bottle of Chandon consumed before a cracker bottle of 1990 Banockburn shiraz/cabernet.  I knew I’d been saving that one up for the right occasion.

All the preparations have finished now, and I’m not quite sure what to do with myself now.  I will stay in a hotel in Shibuya tonight, and then it’s in to my new apartment tomorrow morning.  I’ll try to explore my new local area on Sunday & Monday, and make sure I find Audrey a 1st birthday present, before starting work on Tuesday.
