Currently on Shinkansen from Shinagawa to Kyoto, where I’ll connect to Nara. It’s taken 6 weeks in Japan before getting to see the Takemotos, my old high school exchange host family.
And in an indulgence, I’m reading my first newspaper in 6 weeks. No, this photo is not the Shinkansen, it’s the Yamanote line. Apparently there’s a plan to go down to the Kizu River to get the feet wet tomorrow evening. I hope there’s some hanabi (fireworks) – after all, it’s summer! Just arriving in Nagoya, a good place not to get off the train.
