Cycling trip to Tsukuba 22 Nov 2008

It was late November, and there were still autumn colours to be found.  I cycled across Tokyo to Akihabara, and met Steve and his bike on the Tsukuba Express to Tsukuba.  After a second breakfast of fast food, it was on the bikes up the road to Tsukuba-san (Mt Tsukuba).  The sun was shining, the roads were quiet, the autumn colours were magnificent.  (more…)

Tsukuba-san with Dim

My friend Dim & I had a good day yesterday up in Tsukuba, a town about an hour north-east of Tokyo.  We intended to climb Tsukuba-san, the smallest and easiest to climb of Japan’s “Hyaku-mei-san” (100 famous mountains), but also probably the most famous other than Fuji-san.  Tsukuba-san is around 800 metres high, and has been regarded as a Shinto holy mountain for centuries.
